In May, Steve and I celebrated our 15 year wedding anniversary. It was at that point that we realized, while we’ve done some vacationing as a family, we haven’t had a vacation alone since we got married. There was one night we went away when Rachael was under 1 but nothing else. We decided we needed to take some time just for us. We looked through hundreds of places. We wanted somewhere beautiful, not too hot or cold, plenty to do and wouldn’t break our bank account. We looked through Groupon’s Getaways and found a great deal for the Rocky Gap Casino and Resort. After booking our room, I reached out and we were gifted dinner for two and a stress buster package at the spa for two. We got my mom to cover the kids and headed up to the Rocky Gap Casino and Resort. It was kind of fun because we headed up the day after the Richmond Race and were able to see some of the NASCAR trailers as they headed up the road. The Resort is only about 3 hours from our house in Flinstone, Maryland. It was such a beautiful ride but bring some gum if your ears are prone to popping. We arrived and found an abundance of parking available.
After a few hiccups we checked into our room and loved the spacious room. We had booked a Mountain view room with a king size bed. The bed was super soft and thankfully had some deliciously warm bedding. The pillows were slightly different across the bed which made it easy to get comfortable. Some were a little more dense and didn’t smush while the others were easily pliable to conform to your head. There was a port on the one nightstand that had a space for a regular plug and also had two USB ports. It was great for allowing Steve to plug in his cpap machine and our phones. On the other nightstand there was a great alarm clock that also had a 1.0 v and 2.0 v USB port.
There are plenty of things to do on the campus itself including boating, swimming and fishing in the lake; a full golf course; a swimming pool and Jacuzzi; the casino; 4 restaurants; and a spa. There are also plenty of activities close by too. The pool was really interesting as there was a portion on the inside and a channel that lead to the outer portion. It was completely enclosed but with glass so it was warm and sunny. There was plenty of seating around the pool area and lots of towels for drying off
We enjoyed dinner at LB’s Place two nights while we were there. There is also a small eats place (A Little Munch), a sports bar (Signatures), and a buffet (Lakeside). LB’s Place included meals ranging from hamburgers to steak. The first night Steve had the Rotissere chicken while I had the Kobe burger. The second night we splurged a little. Steve had the Chicken Alfredo while I had the New York Strip.
LB’s Place has a full eating area inside but they also have a deck eating space. It was beautiful to sit outside, hold hands, talk about everything but the kids and enjoy the view.
We also got to visit the spa and had a beautiful day getting manicures, pedicures and a massage. We were thankful to have the Stress Buster Package which is a great deal at $160. The package takes about 2.5 hours and it was pure enjoyment the entire time. We had our manicures and pedicures first. I don’t think Steve quite knew what he was in for as he had all of us laughing with his giggles.
After you get your toes cleaned up and ready for paint, you get a hydration masque. This made my feet feel like heaven. It is a thick masque that once applied, a warm towel is wrapped around your feet to make it sink in a little more.
After our mani/pedis, I headed across the hallway to the massage area. It was such a beautiful quiet space. I really never wanted to leave. Jill was my masseuse and she was great. She started the session by listening to me and going over my concern areas. Because I work at a computer and do a lot of driving, I carry all my stress in my shoulder blades. Also because I had done quite a bit of driving my lower back was sore. 50 minutes later, I was free of a lot of the stress and felt so much more at ease.
I would say if you wanted to bring your family this would still be a great place. While we enjoyed it as a couples only second honeymoon, there are plenty of activities in the area as well as on the campus for the family to enjoy. We even ventured out to Cumberland on Monday. We went through the C and O Museum, climbed to see the rails for the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. The local movie theater at the mall has a Monday promotion which included a $6 movie ticket and a free small popcorn. It was really nice to see a nonanimated movie and just snuggle with my husband. Make sure you check out the Rocky Gap Casino and Resort for your next trip.
