Fibreshare is a fantastic opportunity for those that are crafters. It does have a focus on fibre BUT it includes sewing, embroidery, knitting, spinning, crochet, macrame and more. Sign ups open up and you pay $8 to a part of the group. This is to make sure that you will fulfill your obligations and if by some chance someone doesn’t the money pays for angel gifts. Then comes the fun part. You pick your team (see list above of crafts) and then you get partners. The way Fibreshare is run is you send to one person and a second person sends to you. This is fantastic so you can meet more people. You can sign up for domestic partner or international partner. They do a great job of matching up within your designated team and try to match you up with someone in your shipping request.
My First Fibreshare: Sending
My partner to send to was Kitrinia. She is from Canada and I had so much fun picking things out for her. First of all she is a busy mom who works hard to take care of her kiddos. I chose to do a theme for her in owls because as moms we often have to do “ME” time late at night. My first step was to find some things especially for her. I had asked Kitrinia a TON of questions and new she was new to spinning and was looking forward to learning to drop spindle at some point but she didn’t own one yet. So I took care of that. Where do owls live? In a tree of course and so the drop spindle needed to follow that theme.
Of course it was purchased on Etsy from a wonderful shop, Twisted Fae Fiberworks in Canada. The best part was they were happy to ship directly to my partner so it didn’t get hung in customs all over the place.
Next I made her a spinning cloth for her lap (thats the fabric in the background of this photo) as well as a new Diz and a orifice hook. I chose the diz for the obvious owl theme and the orifice hook looked like a dream catcher to me. Both items came from The Perfect Heist on Etsy. A diz jumped into the cart for me too! A beautiful Octopus one!
I also sent along some fiber that would make for great spinning and a book for bedtime reading for each of her kids.
I think my favorite thing for this theme was finding some owl wrapping paper to put each item in. Little did I realize when I ordered it that the owls each had knit fabric patterns in them. Is this not the cutest Owl Wrapping Paper ?
My First Fibreshare Receiving
The person sending to me was Jody in Utah. I got a pretty great package from her! She included some pretty yarns and handmade items.
I think this is some of the most beautiful yarn I’ve received. Its stunning!
And of course I was Team Spin so I got some beautiful bats to spin up!

My First Fibreshare: Do It Again?
The big thing to remember when you do a swap like this is that there is a minimum requirement. Only do what you are comfortable sending. Know that you may receive a package that is the minimum even if you send above and beyond. For me that’s okay because I love to know that I’m helping someone else enjoy new fibres or a new craft. The next Fibreshare starts June 15th, 2019!
Oh I just did my first fibreshare this year too! I did the one in February. I’m skipping this round but hope to do it again in the fall. I am doing some traveling soon so I’m hoping to curate some extra goodies to go in the package.
