You know that phone call. The one everyone hates to get. We spent the afternoon with my parents talking about our trip to Disney in June. Head for home and the kids both fall asleep. So I sat in the car in the driveway for an hour and a half. They needed it! Then my cell rings. I can tell mom is upset but she asks what I’m doing. “Sitting in the car while the kids nap.” “Oh well we just got a call with some bad news.” My mind immediately goes to my grandmother who has not been doing well for awhile. But no it’s my uncle. My uncle who was only 45 died of a massive heart attack. Our family used to be extremely close. When my grandmother (mom’s mom) passed away a few years ago things took a turn for the worse in that respect and we’ve lost touch with all but one of my uncles and my grandfather. But I still have very strong memories of my uncles.
To this day I can remember “flying” with Uncle Kevin and Uncle Kelly. They used to lay on their backs lay me across their legs and hold my hands as they “flew” me around in circles. I wish our families had been closer and that they knew our children. Maybe things will change now.
