For obvious reasons, we love Charlie Brown and all things Peanuts. NO that is not how Charlie got his name (He was named after my grandfather,) but we love all things Charlie Brown. I think the biggest part of it is the fact that it’s a traditional cartoon that we continue to enjoy. I mean I was raised on Charlie Brown for all of the Fall/Winter holidays and now my kids love it too. The best part is that now they can enjoy Charlie Brown in a new dimension with the Great Pumpkin Fest Kings Dominion. “Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company in conjunction with Blog Meets Brand, and I have been compensated for my participation. What is the Great Pumpkin Fest Kings Dominion?
Well you may already know that many amusement parks will do a haunted park for the fall. Kings Dominion has a great one called Haunt. We got to see some of the exhibits (inactive) while walking the park. The problem is smaller kids don’t want to be a part of the haunted park. Kings Dominion has a fix for that. Its the Great Pumpkin Fest. The Great Pumpkin Fest takes the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and brings it to life with fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.
The first stop when you get to Planet Snoopy is to the Headquarters. Each station is manned by a few park employees that are in costume (not a single scary costume!) At Headquarters, you can be measured for rides and get your wristband. This is colored and makes it easy to ride without having to be measured over and over again. Kids will also receive a special map that mark the locations of each stop at the Great Pumpkin Fest and a trick or treat bag. The bag will come with one treat and you will get more as you go around Planet Snoopy.
Other stops include:
Woodstock’s Barnyard Pals: This is a great little section with a petting zoo.
Van Pelt Derby: This is a great spot for the smaller kids. Available are small ride on toys/tractors so you can race around the hay bales.
Pig Pen’s People Washer: I think this was the all-time favorite of all the guests I saw. It is a giant pit filled with foam. While it does stick to clothing, it came off pretty quickly with a few stomps.
Franklin’s Scarecrow Hollow: This is a great hay maze for the kids. We walked through together and will say there are a few spots where if your child gets turned around, they can climb through the hay to get back on track. Character Walking Arounds and Meet and Greet: Like usual characters will be walking around and there will be some special spots to meet characters as well.
Ghostly Games: There were some great games available for the kids. Some of them had guaranteed winners. Rae played one of those where she had to toss a hula hoop at a cone. One you got the cone in the ring, you won.
Charlie played the Basketball game and won too! There are decorations all around the park and even at the front gate. Most are benign and not overly scary and therefore not a problem for young visitors.
The Great Pumpkin Fest Kings Dominion is open on Saturdays and Sundays from September 23; and September 30 – October 29 from 12pm to 5pm.
While you’re at Great Pumpkin Fest Kings Dominion make sure you also check out the Pre-K pass. This is a great offer that grants free admission to 3-5 year olds for the rest of the year and all of 2018! Get all the Kings Dominion Pre-K pass details.
