This past weekend here in DC the convention center hosted the USA Science Festival. Razor invited us to come check out the event, see what they had to offer. We will receive a Razor item for attending but all opinions of the event are our own. I had honestly not heard of the USA Science Festival before. Its a shame I hadn’t heard of it. I think the kids would have loved it just as much last year as they did this year.
What is the US Science Festival?
The USA Science Festival is a huge event with over 3,000 exhibitors. The exhibitors range from big name companies like NASA and NOAA to universities and colleges. There are a few smaller companies as well. Each exhibit is a learning experience. There are also several stage shows that are meant to get the kids involved in STEM and excited.
Our Thoughts on the USA Science Festival
We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we came away learning quite a bit. Each exhibit had a way for the attendees to learn.
NASA had a scavenger hunt. You could chose between three different cards (Red, white and blue). Once you visited each station on your card and got it stamped you could go to the NASA Summer Camp section and you would have a shorter line or you could get an amazing calendar with poster. The summer camp had different activities that kids would enjoy at summer camp including the multi-axis simulator trainer. We did finish our hunt but the line was over an hour even with it to be able to use the trainer. Since there was so much more to see, we chose to grab each kid an amazing calendar instead.
We made a quick stop at the NOAA exhibits too. Of course that is where Steve works so it was a must. NOAA had a giant Earth sphere hanging in the center and they had speakers running all day. On the opposite side they had another exhibit that explained coral bleaching and how our carbon footprints are affecting the world around us.
We learned how to build a sustainable building and one that was structurally sound.
Charlie learned how to protect his crops! This was a great interactive game where the kids had a few steps to make sure their potatoes would grow. Later in the game, you decide how much to sell and how much to keep. The money you use to repair and upgrade your farm while what you save is all that you have to eat. This game was a demo from the Maryland Science Festival.
Sea World Rescue was there as well and they had some great hands on activities for the kids to participate including learning how they are using safer nets for fishing. These allow the bigger creatures like sea turtles to escape to showing us the most magnificent bird imaginable:
Of course we also checked out Razor while we were there. You of course know Razor for their amazing scooters and hoverboards but did you ever stop to think about the science behind them? I know we sure didn’t. They had a nice display of a few of their current products. Each one of these products has some great science and technology behind them and there was educational information available on each one.
These are Razor’s Turbo Jetts. You simply strap these to your sneakers, press your heel and go!
Due to liability, attendees were not able to test out the products but we did learn quite a bit about the technology. These Turbo Jetts come with rechargeable batteries for extended play.
Have you ever wondered how the Razor Spark Scooter‘s actually spark?
Did you know that Razor actually holds the patent for hoverboard? To make sure you’re getting a proper hoverboard make sure you get one that has the UL label on it. This is the best way to ensure safety!
We want to thank Razor for making sure we knew about the USA Science Festival and all that we learned!
