Have you ever thought about the dreams you had as a kid and how they have changed from where you’re at now? What dreams do you still have?
When I was little I dreamed of being a choreographer. I know its hard to imagine but that is the dream I had. I loved to dance. I still do but with my size its hard to do now. The good thing is that I can dance with my kids and they don’t care what I look like. We dance whenever and wherever we can.
As I got a little older my dreams changed a lot. Around middle school, I started babysitting for a family on a regular basis. By high school I was watching their two boys every day during the summer from 8-5. At that point my dreams changed again. While I still loved to dance and still did it with a dance team, I knew that dance wasn’t going to be the end goal/career for me. I changed my life some and decided I really wanted to be a teacher. As most people do I grew up even more.
After high school, I went to a 4 year college for a semester. It was the worst experience ever. My roommate tried to commit suicide in our room. Life changed at that moment. I knew that I wanted to be home. I knew that I missed my family connection. There was an issue with the fact that my mom drove the 5 hours to get me the next morning while her parents didn’t make the 1.5 hour drive to get to her until late the next day. I came home and changed my dreams some. I decided I would go to the local college and get an early education degree. While doing my coursework, I started working at a day care center. I loved my job. Then I met my first husband. By the time we got married, I knew that I had to make a choice. I wasn’t going to be able to be a teacher and have kids of my own. So my dreams changed again.
The biggest dream for me was to be a mom. I’m beyond excited to have the children I have. They have worked hard to be good people. They treat others with kindness, caring and love. They believe in God and work to live in His ways.
My future dreams are unsettled at this point. I don’t have any long term dreams left. I never finished my teaching degree but two years ago I got my general studies in communication so I do have at least that. I dream of spending time with my husband, traveling and just being happy. This year a dream of mine will come true as we will cruise for the first time ever.
What dreams do you have? How have they changed since you were little?
