Growing up we always watched Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It was my dad’s favorite movie and we would watch it on repeat. (That all changed when A Christmas Story came out and then we switched between the two.) A few years ago Jim Carrey added his own enhancements to the story and I fell in love all over again. The kids love the whimsy and zaniness that came with Carrey. Rachael has been so excited since seeing the first snip its of the trailers. Here’s the thing the trailer that we saw gave a different impression of the movie so our The Grinch review is not the most favorable.
Our Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Review
We were lucky enough to be invited by Comcast NBC Universal to see a preview screening of the movie. For the movie, we headed to downtown DC and sat in the beautiful Landmark E Street Cinema.
We were provided with a drink and special popcorn boxes too!
Then the movie started. I have to say I wasn’t in love and neither were the kids. We have the original story so ingrained in us that this is just too different for us personally. I do like the idea of adding Fred the reindeer in but it wasn’t really necessary. Its a cute movie and one that will be great to introduce young kids to the love of the Grinch but for our family we prefer the original animated version. I really wanted to love it. I think the biggest thing for us is watching the original trailers, we really thought we were in for something different. We though between the trailers and the poster with the little Grinch, that we were going to see more of his childhood, his backstory, how he became The Grinch. Really it wasn’t there. The Little Grinch is in the movie but very briefly. I would watch the movie again but just for the fun.
