I love finding gifts that inspire creativity in the kids. This fall at HoliDay of Play I loved seeing so many different creative toys from Crayola. There was an abundance of products for girls this year which I loved since I’m usually having a hard time finding for Rachael. Last year we got her the Crayola Fashion Superstar and she loved it! With it she was able to personalize her crayons for school with symbols, initials, and words. The one that I knew was going to be the biggest hit in our home was the Fashion Superstar set. I got to see how the whole set worked and Crayola sent us the set to review.
Rachael has had so much fun designing outfits. She’s been using the different techniques that the box shows to test gradients in the coloring to achieve lighter and darker color strokes. Using markers and colored pencils on the same fabrics to achieve a different texture.
The best part is once she’s done designing her fabric she can see her outfit come to life in the app. With a simple (FREE) download in either app store and start to play. There is a short tutorial that shows you how to upload your designs. Its really easy to do. The program is safe and does not have a social component which I love so there is no sharing of information online. As your child moves through the app, they will be asked to design outfits. This will include putting together pieces. For example putting a midi dress with a blazer and shoes. Once the outfit is finalized, you can see it in action as your model walks the runway. You even get to take shots as she poses on the runway and save those in your portfolio.
I love that the Crayola Fashion Superstar allows creativity and imagination but also gives real-life feeling as a designer. The design book looks much like a real designer book would including swatch areas for fabrics. You can switch up designs and mix and match. Rachael has traced a few of the designs on to computer paper and made second and thirds to color in again so that she can make extra outfits too.
