Breast cancer awareness is a huge deal for our home. My paternal grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer, underwent a mastectomy and lived a long life as a survivor. My maternal grandmother was diagnosed with metastatic cancer and was gone within 3 months. Unfortunately we did not due the final testing to see the origin of her cancer but they are relatively certain it was breast cancer. A few years ago, because of this history, I had my BRCA gene testing done. Thankfully I was negative but still go regularly for my mammogram. In January of this year, I had my mammogram and it was negative. I then fought with my two best friends. Neither of them had had theirs and hadn’t had them in a while. One of them even had a mother who had fought breast cancer. We talked about the importance of early testing and discovery. She agreed and had her mammogram done. Unlike me, her test was positive. We stood by her as she did biopsies, testing and a mastectomy. Thankfully like my paternal grandmother her breast cancer was caught in time and with the mastectomy she didn’t need any further treatment. But it got me thinking to just how important it is to be tested and to help those who do have breast cancer. There is an easy way to help raise breast cancer awareness with VIOC. I am thankful to have partnered with Valvoline Instant Oil Change for this project. All opinions are my own.
You see I’m happy to take care of my car and VIOC is my choice for my oil changes. First of all its a 15 minute service. You drive in and never leave your car. Plus while they’re doing your oil change they also will check your manufacturer guidelines and let you know if there are any other things that need to be done. As part of your oil change, the techs will also check and refill your wiper fluid, check your lights and tire pressure. I knew that I needed new wipers and an oil change so this was perfect timing for me. VIOC is selling AutoTex PINK Wipers throughout October (Breast Cancer Awareness
Month) with proceeds going to National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). You may be thinking you don’t want all PINK wipers and while that is a choice, you can also get black wipers that have a small pink ribbon on them.
Getting My Oil Changed
I arrived for my oil change and was greeted warmly by Justin. He guided me into the bay, introduced himself and started checking on my car. He let me know that my wiper fluid was low and added more. Justin and Holly worked together to check my tire pressure all while Katie was working underneath to drain my oil and install the new filter.
Safety is key and while you stay in your car. Your keys are placed in a special spot so that there are no mishaps. The oil change is completed and two important things happen. You get to see the new level of your oil and you get a reminder sticker in your window so you can tell when it is time to get a new oil change.
These techs are amazing in their job and while its probably pretty darn repetitive they treat every customer with care. They reset my onboard oil life monitor but what stood out to me even more was the help they gave the other customer. This gentleman had an older car and they couldn’t get the hood to latch properly. Rather than telling him to figure it out on his own or just sending him off without telling him that it wasn’t latching properly, Holly and Justin worked together to get the problem fixed. A little bit of work and they found that the hood cable was the issue and was an easy thing for them to take care of.
Breast Cancer Awareness with VIOC: Installing Autotek Pink Wipers
For me I went with the all pink ones. I think they just fit me a little more. I want to get new wipers on Steve’s truck but will be getting the black with pink ribbon instead.
Still not sure if you want to purchase these wipers? Think about a few things. Every 2 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. Your simple purchase of wipers that you already need, could help save a life. When you purchase your pink wipers, you can also enter the Pink My Ride Photo Contest for a chance to win up to a year of free oil changes! But what could be better than saving some money as well? We have two coupons for you to chose from for your upcoming oil change. (Wipers cannot be discounted because it would lower the donation amount).
Here’s another great thing to keep in mind October 19th is National Mammography day. This is a great day to keep in mind to get your mammogram or call and make your appointment. Plus if you go get your oil change and purchase your new wipers on 10/19, VIOC is making a double donation that day! Its only 2 days away so hurry to get your wipers installed.
