A few months ago I was invited to a Moms event with Xfinity. We learned so much at the event about the Home system and the X1 platform. The one thing we also learned was that Xfinity was working on incorporating more apps into the X1 platform. Just a few weeks ago Xfinity announced that they were introducing Netflix through X1 into the apps section. I was more than excited to hear about it. Unfortunately I hadn’t had time to check it out and see if it worked well or not. We’ve just been so on the go lately. By sheer coincidence Xfinity asked me to write an article about Netflix through X1 the same week that Rachael got hurt. I received a gift card for my time in writing this article but all opinions are my own. You see this weekend Rachael took a trip in Charlie’s go kart. It ended with her in the wall, a bent go kart and Monday a trip to the ER.
While Rae is feeling better, she had to stay home Tuesday from school per doctor’s orders. The goal was to keep her quiet and comfortable and just let her body rest and recuperate from her bruised sternum. The problem is there is only so much Disney Junior she or I can handle at one time, mostly because we’ve already seen so many of the episodes. I remembered that I had sent out a tweet about Netflix being on the X1 platform and I decided it would be a good time to test it out.
To get to the Netflix app you can go through the menu to the apps and select Netflix or even easier just press the microphone button and say Netflix. The X1 platform will take you through the process of signing in for the first time. (If you don’t have Netflix, you’re missing out! Great original series for the whole family as well as long time favorite shows and movies). If you don’t have an account you can sign up and receive a one month free trial. New Netflix customers will be able to sign up for a new Netflix membership directly on X1, have the service added to their Comcast bill and begin to immediately explore and enjoy the service on X1 or across devices.
Our only problem was remembering the password. Once I got that fixed I was excited to see that not only was our account there but so were our profiles. You see we have a profile for Steve, Me and one for the kids to share. The kids one is specifically designed so they can only get to programs that we feel are appropriate for them. So I signed Rae into her account and for the rest of the day she was able to easily go through movies (Zootopia) and original series (Skylanders Academy). Meanwhile, I was able to knit in peace.
Netflix content is fully integrated into Xfinity On Demand, enabling X1 customers to watch past and current seasons of shows like The Blacklist, How To Get Away With Murder or The Walking Dead; explore popular Netflix original series like House of Cards, Orange Is The New Black and Stranger Things; or catch up on recent classics like Breaking Bad, LOST and Mad Men, all in one place.
The best part is that there’s no extra hardware needed. The TV in our room is only connected to a X1 box. We have never felt the need to have more available upstairs, but I love that now I can cuddle in my bed and watch whatever I want and I don’t need extra cords running through our room.
So what will be the first thing you watch with Netflix Through X1?
