I received the first 2 issues of Art Therapy Magazine to facilitate my review. All opinions are my own.
As a mom I often get stressed out. Okay even I’m not a mom I get stressed. We all do. And we all have to find our own way to de-stress right. For some people its reading a good book (Me Too!). For some people its knitting (ME!) or quilting. For some its writing in a journal or singing. For others its about finding a way to express themselves in a nontraditional way. We’ve all seen the stories about coloring and how art can de-stress you. I don’t recommend it if you are highly OCD. Getting the right colors in the right pattern can make you more stressed. But for most people its a way to go back to childhood and just let be. To tune out the world and let the colors reflect your moods. Imagine getting a new magazine EACH week with coloring pages and tips on de-stressing. This is something I have been aching for. I can’t afford to buy a new book each week and especially if I want variety.
Art Therapy Collection has provided that with their new subscription magazine. You cancel at any time but I don’t think you’ll want to.
You’re first delivery is $4.95 and comes with the above books, markers, pencils and a box to place your supplies in. I was a tad skeptical at first. I mean this is a great price but I bet the pictures are on both sides and the paper is so thin you have to chose right? Nope. The paper is actually fairly thick so you can color without bleed through. Each issue features six stunning designs carefully drafted to enhance your creativity, plus inspiring hints and tips to boost your wellbeing. These designs center around a theme for the month. Each month you also receive a few supplies to bulk up your art enhancements. These include colored pencils, pastel pencils, watercolor pencils, markers (both fine and brush tip) and if you continue to your 12th shipment you will receive a set of gel pens as well.
I love that while there are some full page pieces to color there are also smaller pieces for those moments when I can’t sneak away for a whole color session but I can sneak away for a few moments:
Each magazine also has a color by number piece to add to the mindless coloring. Maybe you look at a big piece and think there is no way I can think of the right colors or your drawn to more abstract because you don’t want to feel like you have to guess what color would be the right ones. Having a color by number means that I can have a gorgeous piece that was planned by someone else.
One of the things I dislike about a lot of the books that I have seen on the market is that the books are not perforated. Meaning I have to color within the book. This drives me crazy as I want to reach those tiny spots and fill them in. I may want to hang my piece up at work or on the fridge. The Art Therapy Collection has easy pages to tear out and color on the go.
