Lion Brand Yarn Studio NYC

As a knitter, there are all different yarn studios/stores around the nation that I would love to visit. I had no idea that Lion Brand Yarn had such a studio. I was talking with the neighbor, who also happens to be a knitter when she told me that Lion Brand did in fact have a Studio. So I came home and started the searching. Where was this studio? How far was it from where the Activision Family Game Summit was going to be? How big was the studio? Would they let me take photos?

Well I can tell you without a doubt that it was the nicest yarn store I think I have ever been in! When you approach the store you are greeted by a beautiful window display. Unfortunately because of construction across the street I wasn’t able to get a great shot of the display. This is the 5th year for the Lion Brand Yarn Studio and as such they were celebrating this month with 15% off all of their yarns! DSC_0001   DSC_0006DSC_0004DSC_0005

I think my favorite idea of all is the Sampling Wall. While the photo is pretty self explanatory I have to say that this is the best idea of all time! Being able to work a swatch in some of the best yarns for sale, seeing how the yarn would work with different hooks/needles and of course making sure you would get gauge!DSC_0003

This is the chandelier that hangs inside the foyer of the Lion Brand Yarn Studio. If by some chance you’re unable to tel it is made of knitting needles. INGENIOUS! and I want one!DSC_0007 DSC_0008 DSC_0009 DSC_0011 DSC_0012 DSC_0013 DSC_0014 DSC_0015 DSC_0016

The nicest part of my whole visit at the Lion Brand Yarn Studio was dealing with the employees. While I love one of our local yarn stores, its a ways away. The closest store to us is nice as far as selection but the staff can be gritty and gruff. When I walked into the Lion Brand Yarn Studio, I was warmly greeted, asked if there was something in particular I was looking for and was even offered suggestions of patterns I might want to look at. I was informed of the sale, the special table of yarn that is only available at the Studio or online. I was told to take as many photos as I wanted and to have fun. And I did. I came home with 5 skeins of yarn, 1 organic wool to make a hat for Steve, 2 skeins of baby alpaca and 2 skeins of superwash merino. Every skein is soft and squishy and I can’t wait to work with them.

Thank you to the staff at the Lion Brand Yarn Studio for showing this country girl that there are spots in the big city that are warm and welcoming!
