Congratulations to #276:
I would also like the Floor Mate Spin Scrub with bonus – my floors look ugly if I don’t clean them all the time, this would make it easier.

Posted by Storm | May 15, 2010, 11:25 pm |

I love my mother in law (MIL) to pieces (even if she doesn’t like me). We often have arguments over certain things. She feels she is better at picking out appliances than I am. So when Steve and I got married we had to buy a new vacuum. MIL went with us and we purchased a Hoover. I loved that Hoover and it was going strong for a good 8 years before it bit the dust. (No pun intended.) At the same time MIL bought a Bissel. It was a decent vacuum but more expensive than my little Hoover, had more weight. BUT MIL knows best right? So explain to me why in the past 8 years she’s bought 4 more vacuums trying to find the right fit for her? She even once told me she didn’t want my opinion because I bought the cheapest item and therefore it wasn’t good. I still laugh over this one.

Recently I was blessed with the opportunity to review a Hoover LiNX stick vac. Again I have to say I am in love with this vacuum. It has a lithium battery to make it cordless. The low height of the head makes it easy to maneuver around and underneath furniture. The edging of the head allows for it to get right up against the cabinets and floor boards. It came in a few pieces but was quickly put together.

Our whole first floor is hardwood or laminate flooring so to have a vacuum that actually works here and not just spit dirt around is fantastic. We do have an area rug in the living room and moving from the Pergo to the carpet was smooth and effortless. There are two settings on the Hoover LiNX stick vac for suction. The first setting is for bare floors while the second setting lowers the brushes for carpeting. There is no getting down in the floor to twist the knobs. It is a simple flick of a turn wheel on the handle.

After cleaning our house, I ventured to MIL’s house with the fully charged battery and empty canister. Her first impression was to laugh at me. You see she had just vacuumed and her bigger much more expensive machine would never miss anything. UM Nope she was wrong I quickly flipped the switch on and did a small area of rug to prove that she was wrong. The canister quickly filled with debris that she had missed. Intrigued MIL took over there had to be a catch right? Was it hard to maneuver? Hard to empty the canister? MIL then proceed to re-vacuum the entire house. When we left that day she tried to give me some money to keep the vacuum. Steve and I explained that if she really liked it we would buy her one for mother’s day. The next weekend she came down to our house. As everyone was into their own thing. I pulled out the Hoover LiNX stick vac and started on the floors that desperately need a cleaning. MIL stole my vacuum and cleaned the whole first floor.

PROS:

  • Easy to maneuver
  • Lightweight
  • Cordless
  • Battery holds a long charge

CONS:

  • The canister is smaller and needs to be emptied more often.
  • MIL did suck up a piece of plastic that clogged the machine. While it worked fine after getting it out the process of getting the plastic out was tedious. It was stuck in the joint between the head and body of the vacuum.

BUY IT: You can purchase your Hoover LiNX stick vac online or in retailers nationwide for $179.99.

WIN IT: Hoover has graciously offered one reader their own Hoover LiNX stick vac.

Here are the rules:

Thermapak ~~CLOSED~~

Posted by: Holly | Comments (24)

CONGRATULATIONS! Winner is #3!
While blogging away I often find that my laptop is close to over heating. I’ve tried those big bulky cooling systems. The ones that you have to spend the extra money to get the one with the USB centers built-in because otherwise you loose the ability to do have enough USB slots open. But I find those throw off my ergonomics. They add quite a bit of height to my laptop as well as being noisy. So my choices are use that and only work for a small amount of time because my hands/wrists are suffering or work without a cooler and only be able to work for a small amount of time because the computer needs to cool down. So I was over the moon excited when I heard about Thermapak.

Thermapak is a great item for all of us digital families. This cooling pad is made from a specialized gel. When first placed under your laptop, it is a solid. As your laptop heats up, the pad takes the head and disperses it making the solid into a viscus gel. Once you turn our laptop off, the gel cools and rehardens. There is no need to freeze it as it only takes a few minutes to reharden. The Thermapak comes in white, black and pink and in three sizes making it perfect for any size laptop.

I received a Thermapak in the pink 15 inch size to test out. I have to say I was rather surprised. My computer stayed cool and running at no risk and my legs did not wind up over heated. The Thermapak turned from solid to gel and then back to a solid with no issues. So it will be easy to use and reuse over and over again.

Thermapak also offers laptop bags.

BUY IT: You can purchase your Thermapak online. Don’t forget to check out their Upgrade program to save you money as well as get rid of that old cooler.

WIN IT: Thermapak has offered one reader their own Thermapak cooling pad.

Here are the rules:

*Visit Thermapak and let me know something you learned about the product/company not already mentioned here.

Springpad It ~~CLOSED~~

Posted by: Holly | Comments (6)

Have you ever been searching for a recipe online, found it, printed out, test-tasted it and then lost it? I do this often. My favorite recipe to go looking for was a copy-cat version of the Bonefish Grill’s Bang Bang Shrimp. If you search for it you will find a ton of recipes, but there is one that we’ve tested that is perfect. I can adjust the heat in it so it’s not too spicy for Charlie. But I’ve found a great site that helps with the searching.

Springpad It is a simple to use site that saves bookmarks in one place as your searching the net. Sign up for the free program and easily access recipes, business, products, even events. As you start adding items, you can also add friends, including me. You can then see what items your friends have saved to their accounts. No worries if there is something you would prefer to leave private you can make items private or public.

Once you sign up for the program you can download the tool bar.  With a simple click at the top of your browser, you can then add items to your Springpad It account in no time at all.

The wonderful people at Springpad It know you’re going to love their program so much they are offering a $25 Amazon gift card to one winner.

RULES: In order to be entered into the giveaway, you must create your own (free!) Springpad account.  Then spring, or save, something on your wish list–it can be anything from a book to a pair of shoes you’ve had your eye on.  Each item you spring works as a raffle ticket, so the more things you spring the more chances you have to win!  Then enter your Springpad username (like so: http://springpadit.com/YOURUSERNAME) in the comments section so we can track what you’ve saved.  The winner will receive a $25 Amazon gift card to go towards that item.

This contest will close on April 16.

I received a gift card for review the Springpad It site. All opinions are my own.

OhMiBod and Getting Lucky ~~CLOSED~~

Posted by: Holly | Comments (329)

CONGRATULATIONS TO COMMENT 156: AMBER

Late Night with OhMiBod Freestyle

Have you noticed that I tend to write late at night? Steve works nights every other week. So I’m home with the kids and I can’t sleep. I just can’t sleep without my hubby next to me. Sounds sappy but I really do miss him. Of course that means I miss him in other ways too if you catch my drift. A woman that is home alone at night sometimes has a need or two that needs to be met now and not days later. As today is Saint Patrick’s day and Steve happens to be working night shift I thought I’d tell you about a new product I’ve found.

I’m sure from time to time you’ve either been in a car next to or in the car that has the radio up so high the bass is thumping. The vibrations can overwhelm the music. OhMiBod took that idea to a new level. This vibrator is music powered. The designer previously worked for Apple and came up with the idea to make your music really move you.

OhMiBod sent me a Freestyle to review. The package arrived completely nondescript. There was no chance that the delivery person had any clue what was arriving. The contents ot box include:

• Wireless music driven vibrator
• 2.4GHz (RF) wireless transmitter with 2 AAA batteries
• 12″ (30cm) 3.5 mm connector cable for home audio AUX-input
• Custom travel case
• Universal charger with adapters for EU, UK & AU/NZ
• Instruction manual

The batteries in the Freestyle are completely rechargeable. The only problem I had was not reading the instructions clearly. Hey it was late and Steve was working night shift when it arrived. The light on the charger is the one to watch to know when the Freestyle is completely charged.  The Freestyle can be used with your iPod (all models), iPhone, mp3 players and home audio. I was able to use my iPod with my ear buds as well as with my JBL speakers. If you’re not sure about the music feature there are 7 preset vibration settings available.

My thoughts: Make sure you pay attention to the charger light so as not to over charge your Freestyle. At first glance, the Freestyle is not phallic appearing and would not cause me much concern if my children were to come across it. (I do have it in a spot that is not child accessible but we all know how they can find the most unaccessible spaces.) The motor is definitely powerful but not overwhelming loud. It is not whisper silent but there isn’t a jack hammer sound emminating from the Freestyle. I would suggest playing with a few of your favorite songs and then making a special playlist that matches your style.

BUY IT: You can purchase an OhMiBod Freestyle or one of the other models. Prices start at $49. OhMiBod also carries batteries, pleasure packs and more.

WIN IT: OhMiBod is offering one reader their own Freestyle.

Here are the rules:

*Visit OhMiBod and let me know which color Naughtibod you would want and what song would be first on your playlist.

National Napping Day ~~CLOSED~~

Posted by: Holly | Comments (120)

CONGRATULATIONS!! The winner is Sandy.

Do you know what today is? National Napping day. I’m thinking of calling off work just to snuggle and nap. Think my boss would mind? Unfortunately I think she would. It’s a perfect day to celebrate since many of us are tired from the change in the clocks yesterday.

For centuries nappers have awoken to fantastic ideas that changed the world. These nappers have included Lord Byron, Leonardo Da Vinci and Thomas Edison, with their ideas changing the world in the arts, literature and sciences. Studies show that napping can rejuevenate the mind, bolster health and creativity.

Protect-A-Bed knows about the wonders napping can do but also know that without proper protection napping can cause health issues. If your bed is not properly protected, it can harbor dust mites and allergens. Something we worry about in our house with our allergies. We have a Protect-A-Bed mattress cover that we purchased with our bed. It’s easy to use as it goes on just like any other mattress cover and can be washed and dried with the normal laundry. I would warn that it needs to be dried on the lowest setting.

To celebrate national Napping day, Protect-A-Bed is holding a twitter contest all day. They will be giving away pillow case protector sets to those people that share their funniest places to nap stories. Go follow @protect_a_bed and send them your story. I think our funniest story would have to be Thanksgiving dinner when I was still rather young. My grandfather had worked the night before at the Library of Congress. They then drove to have dinner with us. Time for dinner and we couldn’t find Granddad anywhere. Finally we found him in the garage asleep on the pool table. Definitely not soft and comfy but that was the only quiet place he could find.

BUY IT: You can purchase Protect-A-Bed products online and in select stores nationwide.

WIN IT: Protect-A-Bed is offering one reader their own queen size Protect-A-Bed mattress cover.

Here are the rules:

Visit Protect-A-Bed and tell me where your funniest place to nap has been.
