Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure® Bake Sale

Keep Going® bloggerThis weekend I met up with Bonita, a fellow 3-Day for the Cure® walker and resident of the same county. We got up at the crack of dawn and headed to our local Bank Of America branch to set up our table. I had contacted them a few weeks ago about doing a bake sale and they were more than receptive.

We didn’t want to block bank traffic but did want to be visible from the main road and the drive thru traffic. So we set our table up at the edge of the parking lot, Steve placed signs on both of the main roads showing we were having a bake sale and the selling began. We had pink sugar cookies, pink rice crispie treats, polka dot cookies, muffins, and cupcakes. I had made the pink sugar cookies and pink rice crispie treats pink by adding some of Wilton’s pink icing color to the mix.

Bonita had brought along some fundraising items that she was ready to pass out and had her sons standing at the front door of the bank. They would pass out some information and then send the customers down to us to buy some baked goods.

Along with the baked goods, I of course brought our Energizer® Bunny, who can be seen in the photos.

After setting up Steve and Rach went to the bank while Charlie stayed with me to help. And boy was he a help. See how cute he was:

At just before noon my mom showed up to buy some goods. She knew the bank would be closing and we still had quite a bit on the table to sell. So she was nice enough to buy everything left on the table. It was at that point that she let me know where all these goodies were going. A family friend who had been fighting renal cancer for the past few years was reaching the end of her battle. As this kind woman’s home was filled with her family and friend’s my mom was going to take the goodies to her house to help feed the guests.

It is with a saddened heart that I have to say our family friend lost her battle on Sunday.
