How to Fix a Flip Camcorder’s Broken Lens

How to Fix a Broken Flip Camcorder Lens

After breaking our Flip Camcorder’s lens cover 2 weeks after purchasing it I took to the web to get a fixed. After much research I found Esslinger had the replacement lens to fix it. I ordered the 20mm diameter lens at 1 mm thick as well as the Elfy glue. The only down side is Esslinger requires a minimum $10 purchase. With the glue and 6 lenses I made the cut off.

Watch below our story as well as the video of fixing our lens.

And the final video that the flip is now working: (Pardon the jerky movements guess I needed a tripod huh)

  1. This is such a helpful post! I have a Flip too, and I love it. Fortunately the lens is fine, but if anything ever happens I will totally do this. What a bummer that yours got broken, but it’s as good as new now!

Also, check eBay— I have seen lens replacements offered by a third party along with installation instructions for $15 bucks. Not bad! And, installation is pretty easy to do.

Yep…. just installed the one I got from ebay and it works. Easy install.

Amazon has them for $15 and so does eBay. It is the repair kit. Go with this one. The glass is specifically made for the Flip cameras. The $15 bucks is worth it, it comes with finger cots for install and installation step-by-step guide. Easy to install when following the pictures in the guide.

This was fantastic! I broke my lens and followed Holly’s instructions (including where I bought the lens and glue). The fix cost me less than $10 and took about 15 minutes. I bought a few extra lens for the future ;-) My flip looks as good as new!! Thanks Holly!!!

You are fantastic. This is a great video. I guess the universe is balanced out, because Flip (Cisco) design defect on the cheap glass lens cover and Cisco’s refusal to own the problem is as bad as you are good.

Thank you so much for your information…you are like an Oprah! Keep up your Blog and all your help. That was better than a Martha Stewart Show!

The fact that you took the time to share that with everyone, AND the fact that you even gave us the links to the exact page for glue and lens is super wonderful.

Thank you, you are really good!

Much appreciated, saved me some research – the website you mentioned, however, is fiddly if you want affordable international shipping.

You Rock! thanks for the HOWTO, I just placed my order with Esslinger. You should get royalties for sending them business :- ).
