I have had a few non-bloggers ask me recently how I got started with my site. To be honest I just kind of lucked into it. I started writing 5 years ago when pregnant with Charlie. We had tried to get pregnant for 5 years and to finally be pregnant I wanted to share the news with the world. Of course that baby journal didn’t get very many readers. It really wasn’t interesting for the outside reader. But for me it was important. In 2007 when we learned Rachael was coming I moved over to Xanga.com to do a blog that would house both children. When I did I moved everything from Charlie’s baby journal over. A few years and not a lot of customization available I moved to blogger.
At the time I had a friend send me a drop spindle. It really was a gorgeous spindle but not something I was going to use so we decided to hold a giveaway. This just bloomed from there. Of course I moved to my own domain name and then over to WordPress. So 5 years, 4 blog services, and 2 hosting companies later I’m happy with where I am.
I love how fast my site loads now then it did on the previous server. I love how it looks too. My theme is called Prime and it was designed by Kim and Trisha from Top Mom Blogger. They have a myriad of design services. While they are not free, they are definitely worth the money. Kim was so kind in helping me get my design laid out the way I wanted it.
Besides their design services, Trisha and Kim also have some fantastic articles to read about making money from your blog including articles explaining CPM and how to maximize your earnings with CPM ad networks. An article I probably should read since I have 3 ad networks on here and I make pennies. (For me, my site is more about getting my thoughts out than making money but if I can make a little on the side great.) Top Mom Blogger also has a whole section designated for newbies. Thanks so much for posting this. I am a new blogger myself, about 2 months now. I have Angela Vinez finishing up my site and I am excited and scared at the same time.
I love blogging and I have plenty of time for it. My husband works in Dutch Harbor most of the year so I am home alone with all this time on my hands and nothing to do. I love blogging though. I really hope my site works out.
Now, just have to figure out the whole PR thing and getting noticed for product reviews!
