Got your attention with that title didn’t I? The weather has finally turned warmer and I love it. We took the kids to the local park, Calvert Cliffs. We discovered this park last year. I really though it was a great place.
There are hiking trails that take you up to Calvert Cliffs. There are several picnic tables for eating out and a pavillion you can rent for larger parties. There is of course a playground for the kids. What I find really fantastic is the safety material under the equipment is recycled tires. It’s soft and cushy under the feet and helps the environment. To keep up with this theme, the equipment is all made from wood and tires. There is a huge climbing area shaped like a ship that has a tire swing. There are a few “cars” and even a snake made from tires. But the area our kids love to play on is the huge tire swing. This swing is made of 10-20 tires all connected together and held to posts by 4 large ropes. The kids love to climb up there and lay down while we swing/bounce them around.
Here’s the thing evidently there are some older people enjoying this area too. Why do I say this? Because after we put the kids on the swing and starting swinging them I walked to the other side to get better pictures. Yeah and found a used condom. A used neon green condom right in the middle of the tire. I made a comment to Steve about it and we took the kids to another area. No I didn’t remove it, Would you have?
This was after trying to get some pics of the kids on the bridge that leads to the hiking trail for the Cliffs. As we turned to walk back to the car, we were almost knocked over my a man with two girls. They were fairly young girls and fairly scantly clad too. The lack of clothing was so notable that Charlie and I had a conversation about it.
Charlie: “Mommy those ladies have no socks or shoes on.”
Me: “Yes Charlie. They should have shoes on huh. They might step on something.”
Charlie: “Hey mommy, those ladies don’t have pants on either.”
Me: “You’re absolutely right Charlie. Look at the duck over there.”
These ladies came out of the hiking trail wearing Daisy Dukes (Do they still call them that?), no shoes and tank tops with no bras. In the one girl’s hands was a pair of track pants. The gentleman had (what Steve calls a shit-eating) grin on his face and carrying a Nikon DSLR. Now I’m all for freedom and have no problems with nudity except when it’s in a public space and I have to explain it to my children.
What are your thoughts? Should people be having sex or taking nude pictures in the public park where children play?

Wow that is really sad that you have to worry about that at your local park in broad daylight.
Love that top picture!

It really is Kim. We’re in a pretty remote area too.
I finally figured out how to upload actions for PSE7 and was able to play a little tonight.
hi i love the way you mix the color here on your blog. Did you do it yourself or it is a theme you extracted from somewhere ?
That is terrible….

What a lovely photo! I love the selective coloring you did too and playing with burn and dodge as well.
I’m so sorry to hear you had to deal with such a disgusting thing right near your children’s play area. It is one thing to do some outdoor nude photography (truthfully, I have done both) but it is quite another to do it in an area where you know the public could encounter it, especially children. It does seem though that those people weren’t doing the kind of figure study photography I have been involved in and that makes me even angrier. The used condom is sick, sick, sick because they knew a child would find it or a parent. Thank goodness you discovered it first. I would put a call into the park department to inform them of your discoveries, in both the condom and the people. I don’t know if it would do any good but hopefully there could be some monitoring after your call. Sad, sad, sad.
What a beautiful pic!
I must confess though I may have *ahem* done something similar when I was younger. lol If it’s a remote park I would understand. If it’s a busy park ummm no.

But the big question Kas is when you *ahem* had some fun did you clean up behind yourself or did you leave it for others to find? That was my big problem finding the evidence. Obviously our kids use hand sanitizer before leaving the playground and take a bath that night (mostly because they play hard).
My big concern is well quite honestly neon green looks like a balloon. Could you imagine you turning your back for a second and turning back around to have a young child “blowing up” the “balloon.”
OMG how did I miss that. Yes I was smart enough to clean up. I would have went after them yelling, “Hey you guys forgot your Ballon!” Some ppls kids these days.

I would think that people should have enough respect for others to not walk around like that in daylight when children are present, sadly many don’t. As for that nasty used condom, it’s a shame they couldn’t clean up after themselves! I’m all for a little fun int he park but don’t leave your nasties for others to find!
Love the pictures you were able to snap! That top one is just pure sweetness

I love your photos. It is a wonderful time to visit the park. not too hot or too cold.
This is a precarious situation really. The park is a public place and everyone has um..rights (is that the right word?) to it for their recreational activities. However it’s a common feel that the park is for family and family activities, hence it’s hard to accept that others would seek to use it for something not exactly for the public or family friendly.
There are things your children must not have to see until it’s the right time to discuss such matters.
It would have been nice if they had kept their clothes on until they reached their desired destination to take whatever photo or movie they intended on doing with also careful thought for the impressionable eyes of our babies.
Ahh I ramble too much

Oh my gosh, how horrible?! We have a park nearby that is a little iffy, with graffiti all over it, and I’ve seen empty beer cans. It’s just disgusting, and such a health hazard!

Neon Green? Wow!! I’ve seen some not so appropriate stuff going on at the park as well. I really wish people would consider all the small children around. Can’t they go to a bar or something?
