I love the look of a steel trash can in the kitchen. Even more I love the ones with foot pedals. Then I don’t have to use my hands to open and close the lid. I bought one at a chain store and within weeks it was broken. So much use the lid came off the hinges and the step function no longer worked. The other problem was that the can no matter what we did was always dirty. There were always fingerprints on the can that made it appear dirty.
simplehuman has the perfect item. A fingerproof print stainless steel step trash can. They come in small and larger sizes. They even have a few recycling cans. These cans have sectioned insides to easily recycle your glass, cans and paper.
simplehuman sent me a fingerprint-proof rectangular step can to try out. And we did. We’ve used the can for a little over a month now and it’s fingerprint free. While it’s become dirty like any trash can, it was easy to wipe down with just a spray of all-purpose cleaner. The lid is another plus for us. Rachael is like many young kids and she loves to look in the trash can. I of course don’t want her playing in the trash. But the new trash can has a recessed lid. She can no longer get her fingers on the actual lid to open it. No worries when it’s time to empty the can there are two pluses. The lid has a lock to hold it open (also comes in handy when you are cleaning out the fridge) and there is a plastic liner on the inside of the can that pulls out to easily empty the trash. The back of this liner has a serrated hole that helps grasp the trash bag and keep it in place.
