As a proud mommy,
one of my biggest fears was Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) I mean we worked hard to have our children and I surely don’t want to lose them. While working at the hospital I unfortunately saw a woman who came in after her child had passed away being ruled SIDS. It’s horrifying to watch a mother lose her child and just as horrifying to know they have no idea why this child has passed away.
Yesterday the CJ Foundation for SIDS announced a huge step forward in the research of SIDS. A major study has found a link between SIDS and low production of serotonin. Having this information could help doctors test to see which babies are at a higher risk.
aden + anais have teamed with the CJ Foundation to help lower the risk of SIDS. One of the key factors is overheating. New parents are apt to overdress their new little one. Or they make the mistake of using a heavy blanket. Both of which can can cause overheating. aden + anais have the perfect solution in their cozy sleeping bags. - Room temperature should be comfortable for a lightly-clothed adult, approximately 61-67 degree Fahrenheit
- Cribs should be totally free of all loose blankets, stuffed animals and crib bumpers
- Lay baby to sleep in an improved crib, on a firm mattress; do not let the baby sleep on soft things, like a couch, pillow, sheepskin, foam pad or waterbed
- No smoking when pregnant or near baby
- If possible, breastfeed baby
- Offer a pacifier at bedtime
- Co-sleeping should be in the same room but not the same bed or other sleep surface as parents.
