This Season Remember the Giving

By Holly

10-6736-01It’s hard this time of year for me to see all the grabbing. Christmas is the Season of Giving. While we’re out shopping and thinking of what our children need, what Santa will bring and who needs what, we should also think about those that will see no Santa or receive any gifts. Many malls, churches and some of our jobs will host a giving tree. They will often have information about a child or family that needs some help this season. As our family has been blessed this year, I felt we should be giving back as well.

I worked with Angel Watch a few years ago. They are an Emergency, Domestic Violence, Hypothermia and Transitional Shelter program for homeless single women and women with children from Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s Counties. Referral from Department of Social Services or domestic violence agency is required. What a better group to work with this season. I made a few calls and spoke with their donations coordinator.

When the ladies with children are ready to move on, often Angel Watch will pass on items for them to use in their new homes. They had recently set a young lady up in a new home and when she left the shelter she took their high chair with her.

I was lucky enough to work with Erin on a previous review for Scandinavian Child. I reached out to her and  Scandinavian Child was more than happy to help me out. They graciously sent over an Anka High Chair by Svan for the shelter.

So please remember in this Season of Giving to give to those that need it most. Find a shelter near you, an angel tree or a family in need and ask how you can help. I know that Angel Watch is still in need of items. They are always in need of basic items, paper towels, toilet paper.

I agree that we should all give back. Each year my office sponsors a family for Christmas. We receive our family from a church, school or the community. It’s such a wonderful feeling to know that a family who would have had nothing will enjoy the gift of giving. May you be blessed.
