It’s beginning to look like Christmas. Part of our family’s Christmas present this year was a trip to Great Wolf Lodge. We have been to the Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg, Va a few times before and have always had a blast. This was the first time Rachael went and we were lucky enough to have Dawn and Abby join us as well.
We arrived on Friday night late. We were greeted by happy smiles and quickly checked in, including purchasing a Paw Pass for Charlie and Abby. Upon arriving in our room (Wolf Den) we gathered our PJs and hopped into bed.
Saturday morning arrived early. We grabbed a quick breakfast at the buffet. The children had pancakes and fruit. The adults chose from scrambled eggs, cereal and more. I decided on a freshly made omlette, some home fries and strawberries. The poor chef making the omlettes was having a heck of time with them sticking to the pan. She really was trying her hardest and while it might not have looked fantastic it surely did taste fantastic.
We enjoyed watching the kids use their Paw Pass to make their animals (a dragon for Charlie, a horse for Abby and a wolf for Rachael.) We then stopped by MagiQuest to get the kids their wands and set up their games. MagiQuest is an interactive game that involves quests, adventures and fun as you hunt through the lodge to find all the items.
Of course our next stop was to put on our suits and visit the water park. The first thing Abby and Dawn wanted to do was watch and stand under the 1,000 gallon water bucket as it rained down upon them. Charlie, Rachael, Steve and myself headed to the toddler area. A smaller section of the water park with toddler sized slides and activities. Rachael was thrilled with the slides. She heroically climbed the steps and seated herself at the time of slide to enjoy the WHEEE of flying down with the water to mommy at the other end. On Sunday, she discovered the yellow slide in the toddler area. While the same height as the two orange slides, the yellow slide is a little bumpy and the water moves much faster. All of us enjoyed the wave pool and the feel of being in the ocean. The lazy river was a relaxing ride that gave us a few minutes to slow the pace and take a few deep breaths. On Sunday, Charlie and Steve discovered the ins and outs of Fort Mackenzie the four-story tree house water fort including 12 levels of interactive water fun including slides that even Steven went down.
Saturday was the beginning of the Snowland event. With the lighting of the giant Christmas tree and choirs singing, we waited in line to visit Santa. Santa who by the way arrived via MONSTER TRUCK. Talk about making our son’s dreams come true. We had seen the truck come in earlier in the day by trailer and Charlie was excited to watch the truck be unloaded and the tires be put on. It was definitely worth it just for the look on his face. Then to top off the Santa arriving what SNOWland event wouldn’t be complete without some snow. That’s right they actually made it snow in the hotel lobby.
I would say this was definitely a blast and a trip we will be more than happy to do again. Stay tuned for some more information about Great Wolf Lodge, how they operate and some interesting facts.
DISCLOSURE: I was given a reduced rate for our stay at the Great Wolf Lodge. This in no way has any effect on our families thoughts or in how this story was written. It is our opinion solely.
