The Help

By Holly · Comments (0)

Introducing The Help

The Help has become one of the most captivating and talked about books in years. Dream Works Studios, Participant Media and Touchstone Pictures are going one step further and making Kathryn Stockett’s best-selling book a movie. For the past 60 weeks, The Help has been on the New York Time’s best-sellers list.

The Help shows what happens when a southern town’s unspoken code of rules is shattered by 3 courageous women who become fast friends.

Set in Mississippi during the 1960s, the film features Skeeter, a southern society girl who returns from college determined to become a writer, but turns her friends’ lives—and a small Mississippi town—upside down when she decides to interview the black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent southern families. Aibileen, Skeeter’s best friend’s housekeeper, is the first to open up—to the dismay of her friends in the tight-knit black community. Despite Skeeter’s life-long friendships hanging in the balance, she and Aibileen continue their collaboration and soon more women come forward to tell their stories—and as it turns out, they have a lot to say. Along the way, unlikely friendships are forged and a new sisterhood emerges—but not before everyone in town has a thing or two to say themselves when they become unwittingly—and unwillingly—caught up in the changing times.

Kidz Bop Dance Party

Introducing Kidz Bop Dance Party

With songs like Tik Tok, I Gotta Feeling and Party Like a Rockstar even us parents are going to find it hard to sit in our seats.

Our Thoughts

I’ve told you before that our kids just love to dance. We’d been stuck on Alvin and the Chipmunks for quite some time now.  While I like the sounds the same 15 songs playing constantly gets old rather quickly. I was excited to listen to the Kidz Bop Dance Party CD. Like many of the Kidz Bop CDs it combines newer pop songs with some oldie but goodies. The best part for the kids is that they are listening to music being sung by kids. They really do hate to listen to my music. I mean what kid really wants to listen to Macy Gray or Reba? We popped the CD in the car and off we headed to the gym. The kids started dancing and trying to sing. Meanwhile mommy could sing some of the songs with them as I know the words too.  With a total of 12 new songs on this CD we were able to make it to the gym and home again without listening to a single song twice and the kids didn’t badger me to listen to their music.

Want to keep your kids moving and grooving? I would try out the Kidz Bop Dance Party.

Why Does Dawn Walk?

By Holly · Comments (14)

Dawn and her Fiance

I’ve been using the message boards over at Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure®. This is where I met Dawn.  Dawn’s story really touched me as she has some huge similarities to why I walk.

Dawn’s grandmother was diagnosed 15-20 years ago. After undergoing treatment, her grandmother is still alive but currently dealing with the effects of Alzheimer’s. Sound familiar? This is exactly what happened with my grandmother. The difference in our stories comes from Dawn’s personal history with breast cancer.

The time has come for us to start thinking about heading back to school. Charlie will be going to Pre-K which means school for the very first time this year. I’m excited but also a little nervous. My boy has been with me almost 24 hours a day 7 days a week for the past 4.5 years and suddenly he will be going to school 5 days a week. All I can say is Thank Heavens it will only be for half day. When we head to school for the first day you can rest assured Elmer’s is our choice of glue. I can remember using it to make palm prints. Please tell me I wasn’t the only person that did this. Slathering glue on to your hand, letting it dry and then peeling it off in one huge piece to see the finger prints.

The Elmer’s Virtual Bag It Forward is charity blog meme, bloggers are able to raise $10 per blog post for Adopt-A-Classroom by writing a blog post and donating a virtual bag of school supplies . Elmer’s will donate $10 per each post written to Adopt-A-Classroom, up to $10,000.

Sweet Dreams Interactive Doll

By Holly · Comments (2)

While it’s called the Sweet Dreams interactive Doll it rang up as the breathing doll. No seriously the breathing doll. I didn’t pay any attention to the box when Rach picked it out. It was a present for mommy getting her first real blogging check today. Watch the video and tell me if you wouldn’t be freaked out as well.

Lesson of the day: Pay more attention before you buy a toy.
